Miley Cyrus, born Destiny Hope Cyrus, catapulted from being only known as country singer BillyRay Cyrus' daughter to super-stardom through the Disney Channel hit sitcom Hannah Montana. She is also a recording artist, having recorded the show's 3 original soundtracks as her titular alter-ego, as well as her 2 original albums as herself, Meet Miley Cyrus and Breakout. But now that the show is currently in its final season and is almost over, Miley's current challenge is to mature and break out from her Disney shell. Her first step: releasing her third studio album after her 2009 EP The Time of Our Lives, entitled Can't Be Tamed.

Can't Be Tamed shows off a very different side of 17-year-old Cyrus, featuring several dance and electro-rock numbers. Title track and lead single "Can't Be Tamed" definitely summarizes the vibe of the album, making use of heavy synths and a visibly sexualized image in the accompanying music video. I personally like the track, but for those who are not fans of "Can't Be Tamed", don't let this track alone fool you. There are other dance-able tracks in the album, such as opening track "Liberty Walk" and "Permanent December", which, some netizens noted, sounds similar to Ke$ha's hit song, "TiK ToK". I'll let you guys make the comparison yourselves.
But the real gems of the album come in the form of the ballads "Stay" and "Forgiveness and Love", the power anthem "My Heart Beats For Love" (which Miley wrote for her gay hairdresser, persuading audiences to not discriminate and judge), and her rendition of the Poison song "Every Rose Has Its Thorn". But in all honesty, the album comes to a low with the track "Robot", where Miley experiments with the hard electro-rock genre. And by hard electro-rock, I mean HAARRRD electro-rock, which doesn't sit well for me, for I think someone else could've done a better job.
Overall, I do not think Can't Be Tamed is Miley's best work, but it is a pretty decent album. It's kinda like something that you'll play at maximum volume in the car while on a road trip. Thus, I give Miley Cyrus' Can't Be Tamed...
3/5
