In Salt, Jolie plays Evelyn Salt, a CIA agent accused of being a Russian sleeper agent. X-Men Origins: Wolverine's Liev Schreiber plays Ted Winter, head of the fictional CIA's Russian House, and British actor Chiwetel Ejorfor plays Peabody, a CIA agent in pursuit of Salt.
The lead role was originally Edwin A. Salt, and the part was written for Tom Cruise. However, due to conflicting schedules and fears of the role being similar to Cruise's Mission: Impossible character Ethan Hunt, Jolie was up for the project. The script was subsequently rewritten and the lead character's name was changed to accommodate the gender change.
I, for one, was looking forward to catching Salt in cinemas. From the trailers it looked like an action-packed blockbuster flick, with guns, explosions and blood. However, in all honesty, I felt little excitement while watching the movie. I assume so because I did not eat my popcorn in varying speeds. There was also little surprises and twists in the film.
My friend said that he got a little confused at the last third of the film. I have to agree: the film's plot may become a tad bit confusing, at least for those who do not follow the film carefully. To them it may be like, "Ooh, that guy's a spy", then "OMG, that person's the spy now?", then "Wait, is that guy with or against the other guy? My brain's messed up." (OK, I may have spoiled it a little. I'm not sure; you'll just have to watch the film to find out!)
But still, I have to say that I enjoyed myself while watching the flick. I love the plot, I love the twists, I love the action sequences, and I literally jumped in my seat when the surprise attacks popped up. It's a perfect summer popcorn action movie. And I can't deny the fact that Angelina Jolie is an action star in her own right! Thus I give Salt...
