The 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards was telecast live earlier today at 8am here. It was one pretty simple show hosted by Jimmy Fallon, but here a rough low-down of the show.
The show opened with a Glee-style skit featuring host Jimmy Fallon, the cast of Glee (bonus for Jane Lynch flaunting her inner Sue Sylvester), 30 Rock's Tina Fey, Lost's Jorge Garcia, The Vampire Diaries' Nina Dobrev, Community star and The Soup host Joel McHale, Kate Plus Eight's Kate Gosselin (in a surprisingly comedic turn, and props for poking fun at herself) and Mad Men's Jon Hamm (seen taking dance coaching from Betty White). Before the group goes on stage, Project Runway's Tim Gunn gives Fallon a Bruce Springsteen makeover, replacing his slushied collared shirt. The ensemble eventually goes on stage at the live event where they were joined by American Idol judge Randy Jackson, performing Springsteen's "Born to Run". Watched it online, loved it to bits!

Modern Family owns the Comedy category, receiving 6 overall wins out of its 14 nominations, including Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series [Eric Stonestreet]. Glee came in second with 4 wins out of 19 noms (the most for the Comedy category) - Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series (One Hour) ["The Power of Madonna"]; Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series [Neil Patrick Harris, "Dream On"]; Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series [Jane Lynch]; and Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series [Ryan Murphy, "Pilot - Director's Cut"]. Jim Parsons wins Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory, while Edie Falco wins Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Jackie Peyton in Nurse Jackie. Betty White wins Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her hosting gig on Saturday Night Live.

In the Drama category, Mad Men receives 4 wins out of 17 noms, including Outstanding Drama Series for the third year in a row. Bryan Cranston receives his third Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series Emmy for his role as Walter White in Breaking Bad, and Kyra Sedgewick receives the Outstanding Lead Actress award for her role as Brenda Leigh Johnson in The Closer. Aaron Paul and Archie Panjabi receive the Outstanding Supporting Actor/Actress in a Drama Series awards for their roles in Breaking Bad and The Good Wife respectively. John Lithgow and Ann-Margret win the Outstanding Guest Actor/Actress in a Drama Series awards for their guest appearances in Dexter and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit respectively.
The 10-part WWII miniseries The Pacific dominated the Miniseries category, receiving 8 out of its 24 nominations (the most number of nominations this year overall), including Outstanding Miniseries. Temple Grandin receives 7 awards in the Made-for-Television Movie category, including Outstanding Made-for-Television Movie, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie [Claire Danes], Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie [David Strathairn] and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Movie [Julia Ormond]. Al Pacino receives the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie award for his role as Dr. Jack Kevorkian in You Don't Know Jack.
The Amazing Race's 7-year winning streak finally came to an end as Bravo's Top Chef bags Outstanding Reality-Competition Program. The Daily Show with Jon Stewart wins Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series for the 8th year in a row. The Kennedy Center Honors receives the Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Special award, while Disney's Prep & Landing receives the Outstanding Animated Program award. Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution bags Outstanding Reality Program, Survivor host Jeff Probst wins his third Outstanding Reality Host in a row, and Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie receives the Outstanding Children's Program award (although it should be noted that Wizards of Waverly Place has 2 nominations in the same category: one for the series, and one for the movie). George Clooney receives the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award for his efforts to raise awareness of human rights issues and spark constructive response to international crises.

Other highlights of the show include host Jimmy Fallon's musical "Goodbye" tribute to 24, Law & Order and Lost, impersonating Elton John, Boyz II Men and Green Day's Billy Joe Armstrong (which I think it's the best and the most spot-on among the three), British comedian Ricky Gervais lamenting the lack of alcohol and refusing to make a Mel Gibson joke because the star has "been through a lot... Not as much as the Jews.", and Fallon referring to Tom Selleck as his "father".

Singer Jewel also performed an acoustic number during the "In Memoriam" segment of the show where entertainers like Dennis Hopper, Corey Haim, Jimmy Dean and Gary Coleman were remembered.

Another highlight of the show (and most probably the highlight of every other awards show) is the fashion, of course! I may cover that in a future post, but overall I think most of the stars rocked it on the red carpet.
Overall, I think that it was an enjoyable time and I'm so glad that Glee won 4 awards in total! Jimmy Fallon was a great host who entertains without going over-the-top. He and Neil Patrick Harris are definitely on par when it comes to hosting awards shows. Plus, the show kinda made me want to catch up with shows like Mad Men and Modern Family. I gotta see how good they are! I wonder if they come out on DVD?
