(NOTE: All songs stated in this review are in the track listing of The Singles Collection - in order.)

JANUARY 1999: Britney Spears released her debut album ...Baby One More Time, which spawned 5 hit singles including "...Baby One More Time", "(You Drive Me) Crazy" and "Born to Make You Happy". It debuted at No.1 on the US Billboard 200 and was certified two-times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) after a month. Spears also receives a Best Female Pop Vocal Performance Grammy nomination for "...Baby One More Time". Spears headlined her first concert tour, the "...Baby One More Time Tour", to support the album.

MAY 2000: Spears released Oops!... I Did It Again. It spawned 4 singles, such as "Oops!... I Did It Again" and "Stronger". The album debuted at No.1 in the US. It sold 1.3 million copies (and 20 million in total), breaking the SoundScan record for the highest debut debut sales by a solo artist. Spears receives her second Best Female Pop Vocal Performance Grammy nomination for "Oops!... I Did It Again". The "Oops!... I Did It Again Tour" was held to support the album. It was also noted by critics that Spears showed signs becoming a more provocative performer. She was also dating then-'N Sync member, Justin Timberlake.

NOVEMBER 2001: Spears released her third studio album Britney, which spawned 5 international singles, including "I'm a Slave 4 U", "I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman" and "Boys". "I'm a Slave 4 U" became a top-ten hit worldwide. The song was also notable when performed live at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards, where Spears performed with a caged tiger and a large albino python draped over her shoulders. The "Dream Within a Dream Tour" was held to support the album.

NOVEMBER 2003: After her split with Justin Timberlake, Spears released In the Zone. The album spawned 4 international singles, including "Toxic", "Everytime" and "Me Against the Music", a legendary collaboration with Madonna. "Toxic" became a worldwide hit, and the single won Spears her first Grammy in the Best Dance Recording category. The "Onyx Hotel Tour" was held to support the album.

OCTOBER 2007: After 1 compilation album, 1 remix album, a rocky and highly-publicized marriage and divorce with dancer Kevin Federline, 2 sons, a shocking public meltdown and a month-long rehabilitation program, Spears released Blackout, her first studio album in four years since In the Zone. The album spawned 3 singles, including "Gimme More" and "Piece of Me". Her performance of "Gimme More" at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards was highly panned by critics. However, the album was highly praised, and it earned Spears an Album of the Year award at the 2008 MTV Europe Music Awards ceremony.

NOVEMBER 2008: Spears released her sixth studio album Circus, which spawned 4 international singles: "Womanizer", "Circus", "If U Seek Amy" and "Radar". "Womanizer" became Spears' first No.1 in the Billboard Hot 100 since "...Baby One More Time" and topped the charts in multiple countries. Spears' fifth concert tour, "The Circus Starring Britney Spears" was held to support the album.

NOVEMBER 2009: Spears released her second "Greatest Hits" album, The Singles Collection, to mark 10 years of her career. The compilation album contains all of the aforementioned singles, along with new single "3". The CD+DVD edition of The Singles Collection also includes a DVD containing 16 of Spears' music videos, featuring Spears' iconic "schoolgirl" look in "...Baby One More Time", the iconic "chair dance" in "Stronger", the iconic collab with Madonna in "Me Against the Music", Spears' pole-dance in "Gimme More" and her multiple personas in "Womanizer".

Overall, I think The Singles Collection definitely highlights the peaks of Spears' career. The "Greatest Hits" album takes us back to the Britney whom fans have come to love, and shows how much she has grown as a performer in a 10-year span. It is a great album for old and new fans alike who wish to relive the old Britney and the new Britney all over again. Thus, I give Britney Spears' The Singles Collection...

5/5

Below is the music video for "3". Enjoy!
